Emergency Distribution to Congolese

In February 2025, Congolese in the tens of thousands began fleeing M23 rebel groups and crossed into Burundi. This conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo quickly
escalated into a massive humanitarian crisis. To date, over five million Congolese are displaced from their homes and villages. Two million are now taking refuge in neighboring countries, including poverty stricken Burundi.

Fleeing the violence in DR Congo, thousands of refugees a day are risking the fast moving
waters of the Ruzizi River to cross into Burundi. The number of lives lost by drownings is unknown. Due to the chaos no records are being kept, but we are told it is sadly very high.
A makeshift intake camp was hastily set up in the northwest province of Cibitoke,
Burundi to contain the refugees upon arrival. Restoring Faith, Inc., working in partnership with dear friends from La Olam, were able to send emergency supplies to that camp. During the distribution, intense fighting was heard across the river.
The majority of the refugees are women and children, arriving empty-handed after leaving
everything behind in their hasty flight for safety. Their situation is alarming: they have no
food, adequate shelter, clothing, or access to clean water or sanitation. Many sleep in the
open, exposed to the elements and health risks.

Glory to God, food aid (beans and corn flour), kitchen supplies, and clothing were distributed to more than 1,000 refugees. These included many elderly people and children that have been separated from their parents as well as families of people with special needs. Please pray that we can continue to help in the future towards this alarming crisis. Many of the Congolese are Christian and we consider them part of the household of faith.
The intense suffering these people have endured was obvious but overshadowed by their
display of deep gratitude and thankfulness to the Lord for remembering them and sending
them provision from so far. Thanks to Restoring Faith’s dedicated partners this was possible. We are deeply grateful to each and every one of you for your prayers and support.
