Nigeria: Christian Persecution Crisis

Nigeria’s terrorism to Christians is a crisis that is drawing increasing attention from the U.S. government because of the systemic religious genocide.

We all need to be made aware of the growing persecution and atrocities to Christians in Northern Nigeria where some of the most violent and deadliest jihadist groups are operating in the world today. We hope to be a voice to the Body of Christ on their behalf. Right now, it is the most dangerous place in the world to be a Christian. Why? Because they are being hunted, kidnapped and murdered. Twelve hundred churches are being burned annually with a total of 19,000 churches burned since 2009. Statistics show more than 37,500 people have died since 2011. In 2025, over 7,000 have been brutally murdered. Thousands of abductions have occurred. Sadly, millions are being displaced daily.

How should the Body of Christ respond? We who worship Christ freely? Foremost, prayer! Secondly, becoming an advocate by sending support to those on the ground that help the persecuted Christian Nigerians who are suffering in silence.

We’ve said it before. Persecution isn’t theoretical. The church cannot stand at a distance. God calls us to intervene, advocate, and defend those who carry the weight of injustice. Advocacy amplifies their silenced voices. Prayer sustains and generosity shelters. Protection isn’t optional. We are called to stand in the gap, protect and defend the vulnerable and to be a refuge when the world offers none.

Advocacy is correcting oppression and actively intervening for those without protection. The church is one body. We need to advocate for the lives of all persecuted believers around the world, especially the Nigerians at this time.

Psalm 82:4, “Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”

Isaiah 1:17,  “Learn to do good; seek justice; correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless; plead the widow’s cause.”

Persecution is not destroying the church; it’s refining it. Nigeria’s Christians refuse to let darkness have the final word… and neither do we.
